Troubleshooting Pulse for Excel
Common issues when installing, signing in, or refreshing tables
The sign-in window doesn't open, or a pop-up blocked message appears
Excel opens the sign-in dialog as a pop-up. If your browser blocks it, the add-in shows an instruction to allow pop-ups for the add-in's domain. Allow pop-ups and retry — the add-in doesn't need you to close and reopen the pane.
"Your organisation requires multi-factor authentication"
Your Pulse account is protected by an MFA policy your organisation set. Sign in again and complete the multi-factor step (for example, entering a TOTP code) inside the sign-in dialog. This isn't specific to the add-in — it's the same MFA requirement as the Pulse web app.
"This saved search no longer exists"
The saved search (watchlist) behind a table was deleted or is no longer accessible to you in Pulse. Refreshing that table will keep failing until you either recreate the saved search in Pulse or remove the table from the task pane.
"Sign in again" after about a week
Pulse sign-in tokens expire after a period of inactivity for security. This is expected — sign in again from the task pane and your tables will refresh normally.
A table won't refresh after I moved it
Pulse tables must keep their leading Pulse ID column in column A of their sheet. If you moved the table so it no longer starts at column A, or deleted the Pulse ID column, refresh will fail. Undo the move, or remove the table from the task pane and add it again.
Where the add-in stores its state
Pulse for Excel keeps track of which tables belong to it using workbook
settings (workbook.settings), not a visible cell or sheet. This means the
list survives closing and reopening the workbook, but you won't find it by
looking at cell values — it travels with the file itself.
