Pulse Intelligence

Use Pulse for Excel

Sign in, add a saved search as a table, and keep it refreshed

Open the Pulse task pane from the Pulse ribbon tab and select Open Pulse. Sign in with your Pulse account in the dialog that appears. If your organisation requires multi-factor authentication, you'll complete that step inside the same dialog.

The task pane header

The pane header shows the Pulse logo and "Pulse Intelligence", with two icon buttons on the right:

  • A refresh icon that refreshes every Pulse table in the workbook at once
  • A menu with your account

Open the menu to see:

  • Your name and organisation (and Trial if you're on a trial plan)
  • Refresh when workbook opens — a per-workbook switch that refreshes every Pulse table automatically each time you open the file
  • Open Pulse web app
  • Sign out

Select Add saved search — the full-width button pinned at the bottom of the pane — to open the add-table screen. A back arrow at the top returns you to your table list without adding anything.

  1. Choose Companies or Mining assets from the selector at the top of the screen, then choose a saved search. Once you've picked one, an approximate row count appears underneath, for example "≈ 12,345 rows — first 5,000 will be inserted"
  2. Pick columns. The picker shows how many of the available columns are selected (for example "8 of 20 selected"), with Select all and Clear actions and a search box to find a column by name
  3. Set a sort order — optional. Choose a sort column and, if you want descending order, turn on Desc

Select Add table to insert it, or Cancel to close the screen without adding anything.

Pulse creates a new sheet and writes the results as an Excel Table, starting in column A. Every table has:

  • A leading Pulse ID column (shaded grey) that Pulse uses to match rows on refresh — leave it in place
  • A caption row identifying the saved search and when it was last refreshed

Your tables

Each table you've added appears as a card in the task pane, showing:

  • The saved search name and a Companies or Mining assets badge
  • A freshness dot with {rows} rows · {relative time} — the dot and the row text turn amber with a ⚠ when the data is more than 24 hours old
  • The sheet name, which jumps to that table's sheet when selected
  • An inline refresh icon for that table alone
  • A menu with Go to sheet and Remove

Refresh

Refresh a single table from its card, or select the refresh icon in the pane header to refresh every Pulse table in the workbook at once. Turn on Refresh when workbook opens in the menu to have this happen automatically every time you open the file.

What refresh keeps: any columns or formulas you've added to the right of the Pulse columns stay exactly where they are.

What refresh changes: the rows follow the current saved search — rows that no longer match drop out, new matches are added, and values in the Pulse columns update. A company table is capped at 5,000 rows and a mining-asset table at 100 rows; if the saved search matches more, the table shows the first page and the caption says so.

Notes beside a row are not tied to that row

Refresh rewrites and re-sorts the whole table, so a note you typed next to row 12 stays next to row 12 — which will usually be a different company or asset afterwards. Keep side notes on their own sheet and pull the Pulse values in with XLOOKUP against the Pulse ID column.

Remove a table

Select Remove from a table card's menu to stop Pulse from refreshing it. This does not delete the sheet or clear the values already in your workbook — the data you've already pulled stays exactly as it is.
